Homestead Exemption

If the home you purchased is your primary residence, you may be eligible to file for a Homestead Exemption. This can significantly reduce the taxable value of your home, potentially saving you money on your property taxes.

  • Texas requires that the home was your primary residence as of January 1st of the tax year to qualify.

  • In Texas, homeowners only need to file once unless there is a change in ownership or changes affecting the exemption status (e.g., moving out or the property no longer being your primary residence).

  • The application deadline is typically April 30th, so it’s essential to file on time.
